TV Chat: 'K-Ville' and 'Kid Nation' KO'd by kritiks
Critics Ellen Gray and Jonathan Storm
Jonathan: I sort of like Howie.... But not to watch very much.
Paul: Ellen: You wrote that Aliens in is a good show. I've only seen a couple clips, but from what I saw it was one of the most offensive shows on tv... Didn't you find it uncomfortable to watch?
Ellen: Fortunately, I don't have to write off the clips. (Judging by the clips, I find just about everything on TV offensive.) I've now seen two episodes of Aliens, and while I continue to think recasting Scott Patterson (Gilmore Girls) as the father was probably a mistake, I still like the show. It's bound to offend some people, but I think it has a good heart. Which is more than I can say for, say, Cavemen.
Jonathan: I think Aliens is one of the sweetest and best of the new shows. It has an All in the Family quality in which the bigotry is always turned back on the bigot and not tolerated.
Jonathan: Things are so bad this year, I even liked Cavemen a little.
Ellen: Exactly. Though I hate it when Jon and I agree.
Jonathan: Yes. It's demeaning.
Ellen: Oh, we disagree about that one. Thank goodness.
CE: Hi- I felt a teensy guilty watching Gossip Girls last night- but it entertained while folding laundry and at least had virtue of Kristin Bell's narration.
Ellen: I love her voice, and the narration's the best part. But it's SO depressing.
Jonathan: Well, as previously stated, all of Kristen Bell will be in Heroes this season, so you can get your fix over there.
Jonathan: I found GG just stupid and not believable in any way.
Ellen: When I first saw the first few minutes of the pilot, I was having trouble pegging them as high school students, they were dressed so oddly. It does make me appreciate The O.C., which while no more believable, at least had a sense of humor about itself.
Jonathan: The only person I had any attachment was the little freshman, who actually seemed semi-normal.
Ellen: Who knew you liked nice girls?
Jonathan: Humor is often overlooked on TV dramas. But it's such an important ingredient.
Ellen: Bionic Woman could stand a little of that, too.
Jonathan: Or at least some better sound effects.
Ellen: I'm sure the producers are adding them in for you right now.
