Deep Sixer: Read Marc Narducci's blog

NBA draft chat: What should the Sixers do?

The Inquirer's Marc Narducci discusses moves that might make or break the team's future.

Marc Narducci: Hello everybody and welcome. There seems to be a lot of interest in this draft because it's so crucial for the Sixers so we'll get to your questions immediately. Thanks for coming on to talk about the draft.

Tony: It seems the sixers are in a great spot being one of the few teams that Yi would be ok with drafting him. This means instead of him going 4th since he is the 4th or 3rd best player in the draft. The sixers could trade up with say the bucks at 6 and get YI which would be the steal of the draft. Is he their target if they move up?

Marc: Tony, I think he is one of their targets. I think they would be happy with Yi, Jeff Green or Joakim Noah and wouldn't complain if Spencer Hawes was the choice. That said, it won't be easy to secure any of these players. Don't assume the Bucks would just make that deal. I think if Mike Conley Jr. is there at No. 6, Milwaukee won't trade the pick.

Ron: Yi is a seasoned pro who has also competed internationally ... It would seem he would be the best player other then oden and durant and maybe horford. He's not one of these euros who only played 1 minute a game ... Yi lead his team to the championship series ... Can he be the player who leads the sixers to the championship in the NBA in a few years? There are not many players in this draft you can build around ... But Yi seems to be one of those players.

Marc: Ron, I don't know if he can lead them to a championship, but he is probably the highest-risk, highest-reward player in the draft. I have only seen a little of him, but a 7-footer who shoots the way he does and moves the way he does is certainly worth having. Plus his English from what I understand is pretty good. The Sixers met with him in LA without a translator. I would have no problem having him here.

Joe: Everyone that has seen Yi is in awe of what they see. He took his team to the championship game in China proving he can compete when it counts. At 7 feet with a 7 foot 5 inch wingspan and a 38 inch vert it seems like this guy is going to be a stud... Do you agree?

Marc: Joe, you can't say for sure he will be a stud because the competition he played against was suspect, but my guess is that he will be a very good NBA player, somebody who could be an all-star.

Leo: Do you think it's worth it for the sixers to trade up? and if so for who? Is the Chinese player worth it?

Marc: I think trading up with the 12 and 21 pick would be worth it for Yi, Noah or Jeff Green.

Patrick: Marc, it seems unlikely the 76ers keep 3 first rounders (unless they use one pick for an international player who will not be on the roster next year). The other option is a trade. What trade rumors have you heard involving the 76ers?

Marc: Patrick, There haven't been a lot of trade rumors with the Sixers because I think they are going to try to get two players out of these four picks who can make the roster. In addition, they really want to re-sign Joe Smith who is an unrestricted free agent, but not at an exorbitant price.

Eric: Is there a chance that the Sixers could get Corey Brewer?

Marc: Eric, I don't see it happening, even if Brewer is available. I'm not so sure the Sixers are as high on him as other teams.

Rich: Do you thick the sixers will keep all three of their first round picks?

Marc: Rich, I don't think they will keep their three picks. And remember they have pick No. 38 in the second round. I see some sort of packaging of picks to either move up in the top 10, or to move up from 21.

Zung: Do you think the Sixers are okay with possibly drafting a "tweener" like Thornton? Also with Carney, Igoudala and Korver do you think the Sixers should stay away from drafting another SF?

Marc: Zung, that's an excellent question. The Sixers say they will go for the best athlete, but I think they really want a power forward, or a small forward such as Jeff Green who can play some power forward and is an exceptional defender.

Jim: Is anyone predicting Yi to flop?

Marc: I don't know if anybody is picking him to flop, but let's be honest, it could happen. I don't think it will, but he is coming to a new country, and playing much better competition. So many players have skill, but it's tough to tell what they have inside and that is what we don't know about Yi.

Joseph: If the Sixers do move up what is the highest pick you think they can obtain? I don't think they get Yi. Ainge takes him at 5. Any chance at Branden Wright or Horford?
