"We are a great team and this is the start of a new era," said Ewbank. "Ball control won for us. Joe called a great game and was fabulous."

Backup receiver Bake Turner, who played under Ewbank with the Colts in 1962, ran into Commissioner Pete Rozelle after the game.

"I walked up to Rozelle and said 'Welcome to the National Football League,'" said Turner. "And you know, he got mad."
