Mildred W. Demchick, 92, of Lafayette Hill, a homemaker, civic volunteer, and mother of Montgomery County Court Judge Wendy Demchick-Alloy, died Sunday, Oct. 2, of congestive heart failure at home.

A Philadelphia native, Mrs. Demchick graduated from Simon Gratz High School. She married Marvin N. Demchick in 1945 and the couple had three daughters, whom they reared in Melrose Park.

She was a member of Congregation Adath Jeshurun in Elkins Park, where she joined the sisterhood, and served on the synagogue's board of trustees.

Mrs. Demchick also was the cofounder of the synagogue's library and a former chairman of its membership committee.

She was a board member of the woman's division of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and taught oral history there. She was a member of Hadassah, an American Jewish women's organization, and supported Technion, a technical institute in Israel.

Mrs. Demchick volunteered to tutor elementary school children in reading, helped with membership at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and delivered Meals on Wheels. She was the former leader of Brownie Troop 7 in Springfield Township, Montgomery County.

Her favorite pastimes were playing bridge and tennis. "She was an avid tennis player until she lost her sight, and she played bridge up until recently with the help of kind friends and very big playing cards," said daughter Shelli Glass.

Demchick-Alloy presided over the trial of former state Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane, convicted in August of leaking grand jury secrets and lying about it under oath.

In addition to her daughters, Mrs. Demchick is survived by daughter Phyllis D. Wagner; a brother; a sister; and five grandchildren. Her husband died in 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Congregation Adath Jeshurun, 7763 Old York Rd., Elkins Park. Interment is in Shalom Memorial Park in Huntingdon Valley.

Contributions may be made to the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, 2100 Arch St., Philadelphia 19103.
