Robert Scott Woodcock, 88, of Gladwyne, an investment banker and brokerage vice president, died Aug. 15, of cancer at Waverly Heights.

A Gladwyne resident since 1953, he moved to the retirement community in 2012.

Mr. Woodcock was born in Lansdowne to Mabelle H. and Harold Palmer Woodcock. He graduated from Marple Newtown High School and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He attended Lafayette College in Easton, where he took an active role in the Zeta Psi Fraternity, serving as fraternity house president his senior year. Mr. Woodcock graduated in 1950 with a bachelor of science degree in economics.

That same year, he joined Woodcock, Moyer, Fricke & French, the family's investment banking business in Philadelphia, and worked his way up to vice president.

After 21 years, he left the company for Drexel Firestone Inc., and then Hopper Soliday Corp., both investment banking firms in Philadelphia.

He spent five years at Philadelphia Corp. for Investment Services before retiring in the 2000s.

A civic volunteer, Mr. Woodcock was chairman of the former Main Line YMCA in Ardmore and head of the Germantown Exchange Club, a men's charity benefiting children.

He was a member and vice president of the Union League of Philadelphia. In 1950, he joined Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, serving as deacon, elder and usher.

Mr. Woodcock's family described him as "always dignified, always engaging, with a gift for spontaneous humor." He was devoted to family, friends, colleagues and Biscuit, his golden retriever.

He taught himself cabinet-making and furniture design in the style of colonial wood crafters, and also built model ships.

He was married to Laura L. Woodcock. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Cynthia W. Pierce and Janet W. Ryan; five grandchildren; two great-grandsons; a brother; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Ave., Bryn Mawr, Pa. 19010. Interment is private.

Contributions may be made to the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church Foundation at the address above, or to the Main Line Animal Rescue, Box 89, Chester Springs, Pa. 19425.
