Chris Squire, 67, the bassist and cofounder of the progressive rock band Yes, who recently announced he had leukemia, died Saturday.

The band posted a statement on its Facebook page saying Mr. Squire "peacefully passed away" in Phoenix, where he lived. No more details were provided.

The London-born Mr. Squire cofounded the band with its former lead singer, Jon Anderson, and the group released its self-titled debut album in 1969. Mr. Squire was the only member to play on all of Yes' albums, including last year's Heaven & Earth.

He released a solo debut, Fish Out of Water, in 1975, and played in the short-lived supergroup XYZ (eX-Yes-Zeppelin), which included Jimmy Page. - AP
