Joseph E. Delzingaro | Water company official, 75

Joseph E. Delzingaro, 75, of Glenside, a civil engineer for the Philadelphia Suburban Water Co., died Sunday at Abington Memorial Hospital of brain trauma after a fall.

A native of Glenside, Mr. Delzingaro graduated in 1952 from Cheltenham High School and served in the Army infantry from 1956 to 1958.

In 1962, his son Michael said, Mr. Delzingaro began a 42-year career with Suburban Water - now Aqua Pennsylvania Inc. - as a construction surveyor.

Mr. Delzingaro was director of the firm's automatic meter-reading program in the late 1980s, his son said, and was construction manager for a long time for the Eastern region of Philadelphia Suburban Water.

Mr. Delzingaro spent nine years in night school at what is now Drexel University to earn his bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1974.

Besides his son Michael, Mr. Delzingaro is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathleen; sons Edward, Joseph E. 2d, Matthew, and Mark; daughters Diane Gorman, Kathleen Moore, Denise Macione, Amelia Scheuer, and Ann Delzingaro; a sister; and 27 grandchildren.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Church of St. Luke the Evangelist, 2316 Fairhill Ave., Glenside, and after 10 a.m. tomorrow there, before an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham.
