Charlotte K. Guy | Librarian, 96

Charlotte Kohler Guy, 96, formerly of Ridley Park, a retired school librarian and a dedicated pastor's wife, died Oct. 30 at Freedom Village, a retirement community in West Brandywine.

Mrs. Guy grew up in Red Lion, York County. A talented singer, she considered a career in music, her son Ronald said. Instead. she earned a bachelor's degree in English with a minor in library science from the University of Alabama.

In 1946, she and her husband, the Rev. James H. Guy, moved to Delaware County when he became pastor of Ridley Park Presbyterian Church. She ran the nursery during services and supported church activities during the 32 years her husband was pastor, their son said.

After raising her family, Mrs. Guy was a librarian at Eddystone High School for five years and then for 11 years at Collingdale High School before retiring in 1978.

Mrs. Guy served on the board of the Philadelphia Presbytery Home Women's Auxiliary for many years. She enjoyed classical music, Bible study, and reading.

In addition to her son, she is survived by son James Jr.; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. Her husband died in 1982, and a daughter, Charlotte Elizabeth, died in 1995.
