Jose Sobrino Dieguez | Veteran journalist, 79
Spanish-born journalist Jose Sobrino Dieguez, 79, has died at his Manhattan home.
His wife, Angela Sobrino, said her husband died of cancer Friday.
Mr. Sobrino was an editor on the Latin American desk of the Associated Press in New York from 1964 to 1975.
Born in Madrid in 1930, he moved to Cuba as a child with his family in 1942. He graduated from the University of Havana and worked as a journalist in Cuba. He also worked for the Spanish news agency EFE and the United Nations.
He married Angela Reineke in 1957 and they left Cuba after Fidel Castro came to power, moving to Manhattan in 1962. - AP
