Norman P. Hetrick | Lawyer, 66
Norman P. Hetrick, 66, a lawyer who split his time between Philadelphia and Harrisburg, died June 30 of Parkinson's disease in the Masonic Village of Elizabethtown, a retirement facility in Lancaster County.
Mr. Hetrick was born in Harrisburg. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1965 and earned a degree from Dickinson School of Law.
Before his retirement in 2001, Mr. Hetrick was a partner in the Harrisburg office of Eckert, Seamans, Cherin, & Mellott L.L.C.
From 1978 to 1996, he was president and principal of the Harrisburg firm of Hetrick, Zaleski, & Pierce P.C., which he cofounded.
He worked for the Philadelphia firm of Townsend, Elliott, & Munson in the early 1970s.
Mr. Hetrick was a trustee for the University of Pennsylvania, its School of Medicine, and the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
For more than 30 years, Mr. Hetrick was active in Pennsylvania politics. He was a delegate to the 1992 and 1996 Republican National Conventions.
An active volunteer, Mr. Hetrick was a longtime president of the American Lung Association of Pennsylvania. He received the group's lifetime achievement award in March.
Gov. Rendell, a friend and classmate of Mr. Hetrick's at the University of Pennsylvania, said he gave tirelessly of his energy to charities.
"He couldn't say no to anybody who asked him. He was always there," Rendell said.
He is survived by his wife, the former Frances Sue Lewis; a son, Norman P. Jr.; a daughter, Demaris Page; and three sisters.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Andrew in the Valley Episcopal Church, 4620 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg.
