Mary Warner | Painter, 89

Mary Collins Carter Warner, 89, of Rosemont, a prolific painter, died of a stomach illness Friday at Bryn Mawr Terrace.

Mrs. Warner was born in Florence, Ala., and graduated from Arlington Hall Junior College for Women in Virginia before attending the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. There, she studied with renowned Bucks County impressionist painter Daniel Garber.

World War II interrupted her studies in her fourth year, and she left to work for the Pennsylvania Railroad. She painted several portraits of her brother, Miles Jerome Carter, before he left to fight in the war.

Among other occupations, she worked as a buyer and comparison shopper for Lit Bros. department store.

An avid gardener, Mrs. Warner enjoyed the outdoors and summers on the California and South Carolina coasts with her mother and brother.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lincoln, and a daughter, Anne. Her son, Lincoln Jr., died in 2006.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
