Andrew P. Mark, 58, music writer, producer

Andrew P. Mark, 58, of Villanova, a music writer, producer, and publisher, died of cancer Feb. 24 at Lankenau Hospital.

Mr. Mark wrote more than 5,000 jingles for radio and TV advertisers, said his wife, Cynthia Carpenter Mark. His music and productions can be heard on major networks including ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and ESPN, she said.

In 1972, Mr. Mark founded Philadelphia Music Works. By 1991, the West Conshohocken firm was writing $1 million worth of radio jingles a year, mostly for clients in the Midwest. That year, Philadelphia Music Works wrote the theme music for the Fourth of July Philadelphia Freedom Festival. The firm later expanded to provide music for MTV-style corporate videos.

Mr. Mark also founded Broadcast Results Group to market another of his companies, the Canary Collection, a music library that provides background music to radio and television stations, video producers, corporate communications department, message-on-hold services, and educational institutions.

In the mid-1990s, Mr. Mark sold his three firms to Clear Channel Communications. He continued to operate the firms for Clear Channel.

Mr. Mark graduated from Radnor High School, where he met his future wife. He earned a bachelor's degree from Lafayette College and then worked for the Strawbridge & Clothier department-store chain before starting his own business.

He was always into music, his wife said, and played guitar and sang with rock-and-roll bands when he was in school. He had eclectic tastes and was a fan of James Taylor, she said.

Mr. Mark was on the boards of the Production Music Association in Los Angeles and the Mann Center for the Performing Arts. He served on the Radnor school board from 1983 to 1987.

He enjoyed fine dining and European and Caribbean travel in Anguilla and in Cruz Bay in St. John of the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he and his wife had a vacation home. He was especially happy spending time with his new granddaughter, Audrina, his wife said.

In addition to his wife of 35 years and his granddaughter, Mr. Mark is survived by a son, Christian; a daughter, Kimberly; his father, Louis; and a brother.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Wayne Presbyterian Church, 125 E. Lancaster Ave., where Mr. Mark was an elder.
