Joan Rivers lawsuit

Joan Rivers' daughter, Melissa, filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit Monday against the clinic where her mother underwent a throat procedure that went horribly wrong and led to her death on Sept. 4. Melissa, 47, a University of Pennsylvania alum who costarred with her mother on several E! series, claims that Yorkville Endoscopy in Manhattan and its staff are guilty of gross medical malpractice because they did not do enough to restore Joan's breathing by performing a tracheotomy. Rivers, 81, suffered brain damage due to oxygen deprivation.

"The level of medical mismanagement, incompetency, disrespect and outrageous behavior is shocking," says Melissa, whose suit also names her mother's personal doctor, Gwen Korovin. "Not only did my mother deserve better, every patient deserves better."

The clinic has yet to release a statement.
