Sideshow: Thanks to and from celebrities
On this day of thanks, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Being, for allowing us to, um, be; to our nation, our family, and our neighbor.
We especially thank those greatest of all beings, celebrities. Thanks for the scandals. The whining. The self-righteous pronouncements. And to the Thousand Points of Darkness that radiate from every one of you.
Octomom: 14 is just the start!
Octomom revealed yesterday that she may add more offspring to her miraculous litter of 14 children.
Nadya Suleman told Good Morning America she'd have more kids if she met the right guy.
"If I wanted to do it the traditional way and get married, that's like another chapter," said Octo, who is also famous for her obsession to have surgeons carve her face into the image of Angelina Jolie.
Octo said her income derives entirely from media projects, including a series of TV docus that will begin airing next month. (ABC says Octo has bagged $250,000 this year.)
"I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't," she said. "If I don't do what I need to do in the media to . . . support the kids, I can't take care of them." Exactly why she should have a 15th baby!
Dances with Osmond
Donny Osmond, he of the dazzling all-American smile, has won the latest iteration of ABC's Dancing With the Stars. DO, who began his career warbling with the Osmond Brothers at Disneyland, beat out singer Mya, 30, and lovable gal Kelly Osbourne, 25.
At 51, Donny is the oldest DWTS winner. His sister, Marie, competed in the show in '07, coming in third.
Adam Lambert, the PG version
Adam Lambert, who went all NC-17 at the American Music Awards on Sunday, took the stage yesterday on CBS' Early Show with a pledge. "Parents, this is appropriate, I promise," he said before singing "What Do You Want From Me" and "Music Again."
But AL refused to apologize for his racy act, which, he pointed out, aired close to 11 p.m., too late for most underage viewers.
"[I'm] not a baby-sitter, I'm a performer" he told Maggie Rodriguez. "If it had been a female pop performer . . . I don't think there'd be nearly as much of an outrage."
Polanski wins bail
A Swiss court yesterday approved Roman Polanski's bail offer of $4.5 mil, agreeing that the film auteur be released from prison and kept under house arrest. But the Swiss Justice Ministry says it will keep Polanski behind bars while deciding whether to appeal the court ruling.
Swiss authorities continue to mull whether Polanski should be extradited to Los Angeles, where he was convicted of having sex in 1977 with a 13-year-old girl.
Stars give their thanks
Yes, we're the ones who ought to be thanking them, but some boldfacers graciously have offered their own thanks to the universe.
John Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, had this to say on her Imaginepeace. com Web site: "John and I, the new members of the new found land, so to speak, loved celebrating Thanksgiving," she said, recalling that John "was so happy that he got the green card" in 1976 to stay in America.
Heidi Klum, a naturalized American citizen as of last year, and who recently gave birth to her fourth child, tells Hollyscoop.com, "I'm going to be home cooking up a big, fat turkey and sweet potatoes with the marshmallows on top."
Mega-selling warbler R. Kelly gives thanks to Michael Jackson. "His music was as essential to me as oxygen," he tells Entertainment Weekly. "Working with Michael in the studio . . . was like going to a session in heaven. It was like hope meeting faith."
A gaggle of stars voice thanks on spiritual news site Beliefnet.com:
Robin Williams: "Being alive. After heart surgery, you dig that part. Breath, family, and friends are just amazing. Just to have a second shot is pretty great!"
Renee Zellweger: "I'm very blessed with people who will go great distance out of their way to help not just me, but other people in their lives."
Richard Belzer: "What am I grateful for? Aside from my own great life you mean? I'm just grateful that my, wife and daughter and dogs are all healthy."
Michael J. Fox: "I wake up curious every day, and every day I'm surprised by something. . . . [The surprise is] a new gift that I got today that I didn't even know about yesterday."
