Probation for ex-judge in N.J. for assaulting wife

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - A former municipal judge in North Jersey has been sentenced to two years' probation for assaulting his estranged wife, a New York City radio personality.

John Paragano pleaded guilty in September to a disorderly-persons offense of simple assault for pushing Diane Prior, who works at WKTU-FM (103.5), in their Chester Township home in December 2007. She sustained a bruised knee.

Under the sentence imposed Friday, Paragano also must perform 200 hours of community service and continue mental-health and anger-management counseling.

Paragano, 43, who now lives in Brick, was a municipal judge for a time. He resigned in November 2004 after he was accused of assaulting Prior, who was then his fiancee; trashing their house; and driving drunk. That assault charge was dismissed, but he pleaded guilty to drunken driving. - AP

He assaulted her twice and gets probation? It seems there is one set of rules for the common man and another set for the legal profession.
