Two men are slain in Philadelphia shootings

Two men were killed yesterday in separate shootings in Philadelphia.

Yusuf Sweet, 22, of the city's Hunting Park section, was shot several times in the back in the 2000 block of West 65th Avenue in West Oak Lane.

Police responded to a report of gunshots at 1:27 a.m. and came across an orange Mercury speeding south on Broad Street to Temple University Hospital. The driver got out at the hospital and told police that his passenger, Sweet, had been shot. Sweet was pronounced dead at 1:53 a.m.

Also yesterday, a 39-year-old man died from multiple gunshot wounds suffered in the 800 block of East Woodlawn Avenue in East Germantown. Police withheld his name pending notification of relatives. The shooting occurred at 12:21 p.m. - Jeff Shields
