Hit-and-run outside Phils' NL title game turns fatal

A South Philadelphia man died Wednesday night of injuries from a hit-and-run accident at the sports complex during the game in which the Phillies won the National League pennant, according to police.

Roughly between 10:30 and 10:45 p.m. Oct. 21, Nicholas Medora, 42, was run over in the Jetro parking lot on Darien Street across from Lincoln Financial Field.

A witness said he had seen a fight break out among a group of men who were drinking toward the rear of the lot, according to police. Several men then got into a white SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Suburban, which was backing up when it struck Medora, the witness said. The SUV may have had New Jersey license plates, police said.

Medora, who was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, had broken ribs and a broken right arm and right collarbone, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call the Accident Investigation Division at 215-685-3180. - Peter Mucha
