2 regional EPA administrators announced
Shawn M. Garvin will head the mid-Atlantic region, which in addition to Pennsylvania includes Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Judith Enck, with 30 years of experience in the environmental field, will head the regional office that includes New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and seven tribal nations.
Garvin has worked in the regional office for more than 10 years, most recently as the senior state and congressional liaison. When he joined EPA in 1997, he was special assistant to the regional administrator. Before that, he worked for Sen. Joseph R. Biden (D., Del.), now the vice president.
Enck has been New York state's deputy secretary for the environment since 2007. Before that, she was a policy adviser to the state attorney general, executive director of Environmental Advocates of New York, and a senior associate with the New York Public Interest Research Group. - Sandy Bauers
