Plaque to honor Chesco officers killed in '72

On the morning of Nov. 15, 1972, an assassin with a lengthy criminal history lay in wait at the Kennett Square police station, fatally shooting two officers right after they pulled into the parking lot.

On Nov. 19, the victims - Officers Richard J. Posey and William W. Davis - will be remembered during a public plaque-dedication ceremony at the historic Chester County courthouse. The tribute, scheduled for 11 a.m. on Market Street, is part of the Hero Plaque Program, an initiative by the Chester County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 11.

The dedication will mark the second tribute for the program, modeled after Philadelphia's Hero Cop program. In September, Douglas H. Pyle, a 20-year-old officer killed in the line of duty in 1988, was honored. The lodge hopes to honor all nine Chester County officers killed on the job, said Tredyffrin Township Detective Sgt. John R. Bailey, program chairman. - Kathleen Brady Shea
