'Grandpa bandit' robbery suspect under arrest

Authorities yesterday said the older man with wraparound sunglasses caught on surveillance camera holding up a Center City bank is actually a 59-year-old West Philadelphia resident.

Jerry Lee Stanton was arrested by FBI agents around 10 a.m. yesterday at his home in the 5000 block of Walnut Street. FBI Agent Vicki Humphreys yesterday said Stanton - dubbed by some the "grandpa bandit" - would be charged by local authorities in Monday's robbery of the Citizens Bank branch at 20th and Market Streets.

The robber was caught on camera Monday demanding an undisclosed amount of money from a teller about 9:30 a.m., and making off with the loot.

Philadelphia police yesterday charged him with robbery, theft, simple assault, and related offenses. - Zoe Tillman and Robert Moran
