Dirt-bike crash injures Phila. officer on a bicycle

A 19th District police officer was treated at a hospital last night after police said he was intentionally knocked off a bicycle in the Parkside section of West Philadelphia by a dirt-bike rider who fled on a green-and-white Kawasaki.

A 19th District police officer was treated at a hospital last night after police said he was intentionally knocked off a bicycle in the Parkside section of West Philadelphia by a dirt-bike rider who fled.

The police said they were looking for the man, who escaped on what appeared to be a green-and-white Kawasaki bike.

The collision happened at 7:14 p.m. around 49th and Kershaw Streets when the officer and his partner tried to stop the dirt biker, police said. It is illegal operate a dirt bike on city streets.

The officer, identified as Robert Sellers, 34, was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was treated for a broken left wrist and cuts and bruises. He was expected to be released sometime today. - Robert Moran
