Rep. Thomas Blackwell removed from primary ballot

Democratic State Rep. Thomas Blackwell was tossed from the April 22 primary ballot last night after a Commonwealth Court judge determined that he did not have enough valid signatures on his nominating petition.

That leaves one Democrat in the race, Vanessa Brown, who was trying to stop Blackwell from seeking a third term and challenged the legitimacy of his petition in court.

Judge Bonnie Leadbetter ruled that 184 of the 756 signatures submitted by Blackwell were valid, according to Brown's attorney, Adam Bonin. The incumbent needed 300. "We are absolutely going to appeal it," said George Bochetto, Blackwell's attorney.
