Montco man charged with vehicular homicide in friend's death
A Montgomery County man has been charged with homicide by vehicle for driving under the influence during a high-speed crash that killed a passenger in July, prosecutors announced this week.
Joseph Cornog, 29, of Trooper, was speeding in Schwenksville on July 11 when his car sailed off the ground for about 40 feet, crashed into a curb, and flipped perhaps five times while traveling 300 more feet, according to the county District Attorney's Office and state police.
Adam Hunsberger of Eagleville, who was partially ejected through the front passenger-side window, died of chest and abdominal injuries at Pottstown Medical Center.
The accident, near Fourth Street and Perkiomen Avenue, happened two days before Hunsberger's 29th birthday.
Cornog, who was thrown from the vehicle and severely injured, had a blood-alcohol level of 0.17, and the same blood test showed he had used cocaine and marijuana, authorities said.
Beer bottles were found in the car. The two men, who were longtime friends, were driving home from a party.
Cornog was arraigned Tuesday and charged with homicide by vehicle while under the influence. Cash bail was set at $50,000, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for Oct. 7.
