Fumo upgraded to fair condition; outlook good
State Sen. Vincent J. Fumo was in fair condition yesterday at Hahnemann University Hospital after suffering a heart attack Sunday night.
Fumo (D., Phila.) has been out of bed for brief periods and experienced no chest pain yesterday morning, said his spokesman, Gary Tuma.
Indicators are favorable for his recovery, according to cardiologist Daniel McCormick, who has treated Fumo since performing an emergency coronary angioplasty Sunday to clear a total blockage of the veteran legislator's right coronary artery, Tuma said in a statement.
Fumo, 64, was to be transferred from the cardiac critical-care unit to a regular room, Tuma said. - Sam Wood
