Philadelphia's director of emergency management, MaryAnn Tierney, announced Wednesday that she is leaving the Nutter administration to become a local regional administrator for the Federal Emergency Management Association. Tierney's last day will be Aug. 13.

Tierney previously helped coordinate the cleanup of the World Trade Center site in New York City as an assistant commissioner for planning and preparedness.

In Philadelphia, she transformed the city's emergency preparedness program, including new emergency procedures and training exercises for emergency personnel.

Tierney is the second Nutter official to resign this week. Press Secretary Doug Oliver said he would leave in October. - Marcia Gelbart
