Alleged Norristown cocaine supplier, 7 others held

The man authorities believe is responsible for 70 percent of Norristown's cocaine supply has been arrested with alleged accomplices in a drug sweep, Montgomery County prosecutors said yesterday.

Dontay Rayshaw "Cornbread" Brewer, 28, of Norristown, was arraigned yesterday on allegations that he ran a suburban cocaine operation that persisted even after nine associates were arrested and 700 grams of cocaine was seized in August and September.

Brewer; alleged right-hand man Craig Cole, 42; and six others were charged with participation in a corrupt organization. When Cole was arrested, detectives said, they caught him trying to dump 700 grams of cocaine out a third-floor window.

District Judge Francis J. Lawrence set bail at $500,000 each for Brewer, Cole, Damian Solomon, 29, of Norristown, and Simeon Spence, 30, of Norristown. None posted bond immediately. Unsecured bail of $50,000 was set for three others. An eighth charged suspect had yet to be arraigned, a court official said. - Derrick Nunnally
