Toppled tractor-trailer ties up turnpike traffic
A tractor-trailer overturned at the interchange between the Blue Route and the Pennsylvania Turnpike yesterday afternoon, snarling regional traffic during the evening rush for commuters.
The truck overturned shortly before 3 p.m. on a ramp from northbound I-476 to westbound I-76, authorities said. The big rig carried chemical cylinders that were leaking, which prompted a hazardous-materials response.
There was no immediate threat to area residents, but the cleanup forced officials to close the interchange ramp and the westbound on-ramp from Matsonford Road to I-76.
