Camden High School co-principal reassigned

Camden High School co-principal Marilyn Jamal has been reassigned to the district's Environmental Center as a vice principal with a cut in pay.

Last month, former Camden High principal Al Davis was brought in as an acting co-principal in charge of climate control to deal with discipline and security issues. At the time district officials said Jamal and Davis would run the school jointly.

Jamal's reassignment was effective March 9 but was approved last night by the Camden school board. No reason was given for the reassignment. Her salary was reduced from $118,017 to $105,374.

Claudia Cream, head of the district's administrators union, criticized the reassignment. "I felt what transpired wasn't done in decency and in order," Cream said. Jamal, she said, "has proven her commitment to the district" for 36 years. - Rita Giordano
