New Jersey allocates $22 million for security effort

New Jersey is distributing more than $22 million in federal homeland security grants to its 21 counties.

Counties will get the money based on assessment of risk. Urban Hudson County gets the most, $2.3 million, and rural Salem gets the least, $459,000. Richard Canas, state homeland security and preparedness director, says the money amounts to 15 percent, or about $3 million, more than last year's allocation. Gov. Corzine credits the Democratic Congress with opposing President Bush's proposals to cut homeland security funding nationwide. Corzine says the money helps those on the front lines prevent, respond and recover from disasters, including potential terrorist attacks.

Burlington County will get $825,000, Camden County $934,000, and Gloucester County $864,000.
