Woman escapes abductor in Haddonfield

A Haddonfield woman escaped as an abductor was driving her away in a van Wednesday, police said.

The 50-year-old woman came out of her house in the 100 block of Park Place and began talking with the driver of a white van in her driveway. He then forced her into the van and started driving away, Police Chief Rick Tsonis said yesterday.

She managed to get out of the van and escape, suffering only minor injuries, Tsonis said.

"In my 25 years plus in Haddonfield, I can't recall anything like this happening," he said.

The incident occurred about 10:30 a.m., after the man began questioning her about making a delivery.

The assailant was described as a Hispanic male in his mid to late 20s, about 5-foot-8 and 150 pounds, with an athletic build. He was wearing dark, baggy clothing.

Police have released a sketch of the man.

The van had a baby seat inside.
