Man alleges 1988 Sandusky assault at Penn State camp

Another professed victim of Jerry Sandusky wants to have his day in court.

On Thursday, Altoona, Pa., lawyer Daniel Kiss announced a news conference for Wednesday at the Centre County Courthouse, where a statement will be read for the alleged victim.

The alleged abuse dates to June 1988, when, the man says, he attended a football camp at Pennsylvania State University as a recruit and "guest of the university."

That is when the man says Sandusky, then the Nittany Lions' defensive coordinator, molested him.

The young man "was an excellent student, extremely gifted athlete, and a model citizen," the alleged victim's family said in a statement.

After that camp, the statement said, "his life slowly began to spiral out of control, into a life of drugs, alcohol, and serious crime. . . . He secretly lived with this guilt and shame for approximately 27 years."

The man reported the assault to state police in 2011. The case was subsequently referred to the state Attorney General's Office, "where no action was taken," Kiss said.

In September 2014, Kiss' firm, the Law Offices of Steven P. Passarello, filed a private criminal complaint. That was submitted to the Attorney General's Office in October 2014.

Kiss said an April meeting with the Attorney General's Office was followed by a May letter "denying approval . . . over concerns relating to the statute of limitations."

Kiss said the man is appealing the Attorney General's Office's decision to Centre County Court.

Sandusky, 71, was convicted of 45 counts of child sexual abuse in June 2012 and sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison.
