16 years in jail for Germantown rape
A Germantown man who pleaded guilty in July to raping a woman who could not hear or speak was sentenced yesterday to eight to 16 years in prison by a Philadelphia judge.
Clarence Moore, 24, was also sentenced by Common Pleas Court Judge Thomas Dempsey to four years of probation after he is released from prison, according to Assistant District Attorney Eileen Hurley.
Moore pleaded guilty to rape, simple assault, and reckless endangerment in the assault of the 44-year-old woman at 6:30 a.m. Nov. 14, 2008. The woman, who gave a victim-impact statement through a sign-language interpreter, told police that Moore had followed her though she tried to wave him away by indicating she could neither hear nor speak. As she stood outside the rear entrance of the Germantown nursing home where she works, the victim testified, Moore knocked her to the ground and assaulted her. - Joseph A. Slobodzian
