The body of a Gloucester County man who disappeared two years ago has been found in woods in Monroe Township, near where he was last seen.

William Amendolia of Williamstown was 55 when he went missing after being involved in a minor car accident on Jan. 22, 2007. A hunter found his remains last Friday, frozen to the ground.

The Gloucester County Medical Examiner's Office, which examined the remains, could not determine a cause of death, according to the county Prosecutor's Office.

Amendolia had been riding in a car driven by his nephew, said Bernie Weisenfeld, a spokesman for the Prosecutor's Office.

Christopher Kapral, 21, of Franklinville, crashed into a utility pole on Williamstown-Franklinville Road shortly after 6:30 p.m., according to Monroe Township police.

Amendolia got out of the car and walked into the woods, Weisenfeld said. He would not comment on why Amendolia left the scene.

Kapral reported the accident and told police that he lost control of his vehicle after he reached down to pick up a dropped cell phone. Kapral did not tell police that Amendolia had been in his car, authorities said.

Amendolia's family filed a missing-person report weeks later. It is unclear whether the area near the crash was searched, Weisenfeld said, and he did not comment on why Kapral did not tell officers about his uncle.

Kapral is not expected to face any charges, Weisenfeld said.
