Pa. Game Commission votes to oust chief, pending inquiry

PITTSBURGH - Pennsylvania game commissioners voted yesterday to remove Thomas Boop from his position as president, pending what other board members called a "trial."

PITTSBURGH - Pennsylvania game commissioners voted yesterday to remove Thomas Boop from his position as president, pending what other board members called a "trial."

Boop, who has been critical of the Game Commission's deer-management program, vowed to fight to keep the post.

Though Boop said he had already been removed, Commissioner H. Daniel Hill III said Boop would be presented with formal charges and given a "trial."

Boop's position on deer management was not the reason four of six board members voted to remove him, Hill said. Boop has questioned the competence and motive of his colleagues, he said.

Boop believes deer numbers are too low in some parts of the state and too high in others. He wants to modify the program to increase the herd in areas deemed to have low populations.
