Stephen Liczbinski was shot and killed Saturday morning with a military-style rifle when he confronted three robbers who held up a Bank of America branch inside a Shop-Rite in Port Richmond. Police killed one suspect and arrested two others. Liczbinski is the third Philadelphia police officer shot and killed in the line of duty in the last two years. In the last two years, The Philadelphia Police Department has lost three of its officers in the line of duty. Before Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski was fatally shot Saturday, Officer Chuck Cassidy was killed last November as he interrupted a robbery at a West Oak Lane Dunkin' Donuts. In May 2006, Officer Gary Skerski was slain when he responded to a robbery at Pat's Cafe in Frankford.
