In 2005, members of the Alpha Company lost six of their men in bomb blasts in Iraq. Of 131 living men on Alpha’s Iraq roster, The Inquirer reached 130 of them for a story about that experience and the resulting effect once they returned home. Of the 126 men who responded to our questions, 46 percent said they had been treated for post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. This rate is much higher than what the Defense Department reports for most Iraq war veterans.
