Stats: The Uninsured Die Sooner
Uninsured diabetics
are less likely to see doctors and get preventative care. They are also more likely
to suffer amputations
and go blind than those
with insurance,
studies show.
Uninsured patients die sooner than the insured
who have many diseases, such as diabetes,
cancer and heart disease.
An estimated 18,000 uninsured adults under
age 65 died in 2000
from lack of coverage.
