Police ID man thought dead after rafting in creek

Police have identified a man who disappeared Tuesday night while rafting with friends on the flooded Pennypack Creek near Roosevelt Boulevard.

Police have identified a man who disappeared Tuesday night while rafting with friends on the flooded Pennypack Creek near Roosevelt Boulevard.

Saulius Kvaraclejus, 20, of Holmesburg, fell off his blow up raft and managed to get his head above water a few times before succumbing to the strong current near the water fall under the highway, police said.

Two friends survived and were questioned by police.

A search has failed to find Kvaraclejus's body.

At the man's home, a woman who said she was the boy's aunt but would not give her name said his family was appealing to the community to assist in looking for his body along the creek's banks.

She said he had planned to attend Penn State next month.

"He is a good kid," the aunt said. "He enjoyed everything a boy his age would."

Downpours dumped more than an inch of rain an hour in many areas Tuesday, resulting in many flooded roads and streams.
