Black Dynamite Smart, funny send-up of blaxploitation pics from cowriter and star Michael Jai White. Even if you don't know Shaft from a mineshaft, it's worth checking out this ingeniously plotted, over-the-top spoomage, with its kickboxing lady-killer hero, pimps and pushers, and an evil plot that leads from Watts to the White House. The Damned United Michael Sheen is stunningly good as legendary U.K. soccer manager Brian Clough in this crackling character study. Not so much a sports movie, but rather a finely turned portrait of a man full of ambition and inspiration - and full of himself, too. Hubris and humility on the soccer pitch! R
Where the Wild Things Are Spike Jonze's wild, woolly adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic captures the raging emotions of the book - and of childhood - with inventiveness and mystery. PG
