Sideshow: Limbaugh, Sharpton fighting from afar

Did you know the Rev. Al Sharpton and Rush Limbaugh are partners? Bros beneath the skin? They're acting like it. First, Rush wanted to buy the St. Louis Rams. Then Rev. Al complained, along with several African American football players. Then Rush got dropped from the buyers group. Then Rush, Saturday in the Wall Street Journal, got all hissy and accused Rev. Al of playing a leading role in two '90s race riots. Whoa! Now Rev. Al says he'll sue unless Rush "apologizes." Sure he will. No word yet from the Rushkies. Keep it going, guys. This is fun!

Comcast to deep-6 Leno?

Yikes. Didn't Jay Leno just get to primetime? Who cares? It's TV: Losers die!!!! WashPost critic Tom Shales says that if Comcast Corp. buys NBC Universal, as it's trying to do, The Jay Leno Show, of lame ratings, would be an early casualty. Shales says NBC is looking to sacrifice Leno because he's banned any sad stuff from the hour before his show, meaning NBC can't have any good drama on. NBC? Good drama? Huh?

McCain's in the game

What was Meghan McCain thinking? Daughter of Sen. John McCain, who came within a mere 9.5 million votes of becoming U.S. prez? She tells 60,000 followers on Twitter she's lounging, reading an Andy Warhol bio. She adds a pic of herself and her book - and slinky tanktop, and cleavage to rival many famous geological sites. Outrage! Folks (even GOPers) questioning her, um, er, upstandingness! She tweeted she was "hurt" and had become "a vessel for harassment," but SideShow suspects that Meg M, also a blogger for the Daily Beast, is just joinin' da show. She has tweeted that she has a "juicy booty," and she hangs out with Tila Tequila. C'mon!

'Wild Things' on top

Of course they are! Where the Wild Things Are debuted this weekend and just beasted at the box office, with $34.47 mils-plus intake, according to studio estimates. Law Abiding Citizen, Jamie Foxx's joint, debuted at No. 2, with $21.25 mils, just edging the astounding, low-budget, hot-as-Meghan McCain thriller Paranormal Activity, with $20.16 mils in its second week. Another good debut was The Stepfather (2009), at No. 5 with $12.3 mils.

Ciao, Gourmet, and hi!

As the world knows, Gourmet mag was axed by publisher Condé Nast recently. So a wake was held Friday at A Voce Columbus Circle in New York, with editor-in-chief Ruth Reichl, Condé Nast editorial director Tom Wallace, and former publisher Nancy Berger Cardone, among others. Reichl said she thinks "print magazines as we know them will cease to exist." Well, they can always become TV shows, as in Gourmet's Adventures with Ruth, which Reichl hosts, debuting, oddly enough, yesterday on PBS. A second season is planned, so maybe there is life after print!
