West Deptford’s Tamasitis flourishes at RB

Ken Tamasitis is a running back with special appreciation for his offensive linemen.

After all, he used to be one of them.

Tamasitis doesn't look like a former guard. The West Deptford senior is 5-foot-8 and 170 pounds, and he's a speedy, shifty runner.

But when Tamasitis was five years old, he signed up for football in West Deptford's youth program and the coaches made him an offensive guard. He stayed there for five or six years, too.

Nowadays, Tamasitis is a key player for the undefeated Eagles. He ran for a touchdown, his seventh of the season, and intercepted two passes in West Deptford's 35-13 victory over previously undefeated Haddonfield Friday night.

Question: How did you like playing offensive guard?

Answer: I didn't mind it. Then everybody got bigger and I stayed the same size and they switched me to running back. I like that better.

Q: Did you grow up dreaming about playing for West Deptford?

A: Definitely. We used to go to all the games when we were younger, watching Anthony Scirrotto and Kordell Young and those guys. It always was a great atmosphere.

Q: What's it like to play in a program with West Deptford's tradition?

A: It's awesome. It seems like the program has been successful for the last 12, 15 years. We want to uphold the tradition.

Q: Is there a lot of pressure?

A: We don't look as it as pressure. We embrace it. We work so hard that we believe we're going to be successful.

Q: What are your plans for next year?

A: I'm not sure yet. I plan to go to college and I'd like to try to play football but I'm not sure where.

Q: Do you have a favorite subject in school?

A: Math.

Q: What kind of music do you listen to?

A: I'm a classic rock guy. I like Tom Petty, the Rolling Stones, stuff like that.

Q: What's your favorite meal?
