Phil Anastasia is in his first year as a South Jersey sports columnist. Born and raised in South Jersey, he prefers standing on the sidelines at high school football games on Friday nights to sitting in the press box at Eagles games on Sunday afternoons. He’s a graduate of Rowan University with a degree in English.

Chelsea Schmotzer got a late start in volleyball. Now she's hoping for a late finish. The 5-foot-11 Schmotzer didn't start playing the sport until her freshman year at Cherry Hill West. Now the senior is a middle hitter for the Lions, who finished second in the Olympic Patriot Division with an 8-2 record. Cherry Hill West has a 21-5 overall record.
