The Heisman race is nearing the finish line, with only a few scenarios worth discussing. Here is how staff writer Mike Jensen handicaps the field:
HIS TO LOSE
Tim Tebow
QB, Florida. In case you hadn't heard, Tebow is the first player in Division I-A history with at least 20 rushing touchdowns and 20 passing touchdowns in the same season. That will be in the second paragraph of every Heisman story unless Tebow looks awful against the Seminoles.
This week: Florida State.
COULD HE STILL WIN?
Chase Daniel
QB, Missouri. He's got more passing yards than Tebow has combined passing and rushing yards. That should count for something, but only if Mizzou knocks off Kansas.
This week: Kansas.
WHAT IF HE GOES OFF?
Darren McFadden
RB, Arkansas. Voters could still be swayed if McFadden runs big - 200-plus big - against Louisiana State, mainly because that isn't supposed to happen against the top-ranked Tigers.
This week: At LSU.
THE FEEL-BAD STORY
Dennis Dixon
QB, Oregon. Dixon went into last week's Arizona game as the Heisman favorite and left early, needing season-ending knee surgery. Now we will see whether he's a finalist.
CAN'T SEE IT
Pat White
QB, West Virginia. He is a huge reason why the Mountaineers are still in the national-title hunt, but his numbers don't compare with the other favorites.
This week: Connecticut.
DESERVES TO BE IN N.Y.C.
Matt Ryan
QB, Boston College. His pro-level passing at Clemson got BC into the Atlantic Coast Conference title game. Voters should remember that enough to make him a finalist.
This week: Miami.
WE'RE NOT BUYING IT
Todd Reesing
QB, Kansas. We can see Reesing getting second- and third-place votes if Kansas beats Missouri, but not many first-place votes outside the Midwest.
This week: Missouri.
WE ARE BUYING IT
Glenn Dorsey
DT, Louisiana State. If the Tigers pitch a shutout, could he take McFadden's place as a finalist?
This week: Arkansas.
