Inqlings: On radio, sounds like Series

It'll be scrapple meets apple on sports radio this week.

Two ESPN stations - Philly's 97.5 The Fanatic and New York's 1050 ESPN - will simulcast their afternoon shows tomorrow, before the first game of the World Series.

The show will pair Philly's Mike Missanelli and New York's Michael Kay from 2 to 7 p.m. from the Dugout, a bar on River Avenue in the Bronx, across from Yankee Stadium. From 7 to 8 p.m., both stations will continue coverage with a pregame show from the Dugout, and both stations will carry the national feed of the game.

CBS stations WIP (610 Philly) and The Fan (660 New York) tomorrow will do "The Battle of the Broads," as in Broadway vs. Broad Street. CBS has local rights to the Phillies on WPHT (1210). WIP midday personalities Anthony Gargano and Glen Macnow will debate The Fan's Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts from the Chickie's & Pete's in Bordentown - near the imaginary demarcation line between North and South Jersey.

WIP will be on the air from Town Tavern in Greenwich Village tomorrow (with Howard Eskin and Ike Reese from 3 to 7 p.m.) and on Thursday (both Gargano/Macnow and Eskin/Reese).

Atlantic City seems to draw equal numbers of Philadelphians and New Yorkers. On Friday morning, the Borgata will host WIP's Angelo Cataldi and his crew, as usual, in front of Gypsy Bar from 6 to 10, while at the same time across the casino floor in B Bar, the Borgata will host Boomer & Carton, the morning show from WFAN.

Comcast SportsNet contributor Ed Rendell is not the only TV star in the family. The guv's daughter-in-law, Beka, costars on Philly Kitchen, a Saturday series that launched last weekend on MyPHL17. It airs at 11 a.m. Beka Rendell, who married Jesse Rendell last year, contributes home-decor and entertaining ideas for the show by Multi Media Productions, which also features kitchen designer Jerry Hankins talking about renovations, and chef Jim Coleman of Blue Bell's Coleman restaurant covering easy-to-do food. Rendell is an owner and event stylist at Innove Events.

Why Princess Diana's toe shoes are part of the Diana exhibit at the National Constitution Center: CBS3's Susan Barnett - who cohosts a special tonight at 7:30 on CBS3 and at 10:30 on the CW Philly - says Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, told her that Diana's real dream was to be a ballerina. But at 5-foot-10, she had to settle for royalty.

Comcast SportsNet has hired Jaime Maggio, a sideline reporter for Fox's NFL games, as sideline reporter for all Sixers home games, starting tomorrow. She'll join Marc Zumoff and color analyst Ed Pinckney. She replaces Dei Lynam, who will do analysis pre- and postgame and contribute to CSNPhilly.com. Maggio will continue her NFL work for Fox.

The circuit

The Water Works restaurant on Kelly Drive hosted a masquerade- themed wrap party for the James L. Brooks film on Saturday. Stars did not attend, but Brooks was there as a nattily dressed director.

Eagles QB Michael Vick is the scheduled guest for Reuben Frank's sports chat at Vesuvio, 736 S. Eighth St., from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday. It's free to watch.

Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels, wife Heidi, son Caleb, and two friends had Sunday dinner at Sullivan's in Wilmington. Hamels had the bone-in filet with a loaded baked potato, creamed spinach, and green beans. Caleb went without, as he's less than 3 weeks old.

Phils pitcher Cliff Lee and outfielder Jayson Werth had dinner with a third guy Saturday in Atlantic City at the Borgata's Wolfgang Puck American Grill.

WPEN made a genius move going to FM and rebranding themselves. Many out of towners like myself could no longer stomach WIP's zany no sports morning show and pompous hosts throughout the day. We want to stay connected to local sports. But DirecTV offers local sports networks from every major city in the US, except Philly. We wake up yearning for Philadelphia sports but must wait until at least 10AM to tune in to a stream of a local sports show. All that 97.5 has to do is get a breathing, semi-intelligent morning host and it will be lights out at 610. Possibly they can try to get Al Morganti and Keith Jones over. They are great radio guys but get lost in the garbage at their present station. 97.5 is now an app on my iPhone and is streaming in my car or office from 10 AM through my drive home.
