Inqlings: Blind boy gets his 'Idol' wish

Fox29 isn't sending a reporter to L.A. for next week's season finale of American Idol, but it will fly out 11-year-old jazz singer Rocco Fiorentino - fulfilling the Voorhees boy's longtime wish.

Rocco, blind since birth and an activist for blind kids, had shared his dream with Fox29 anchor Dawn Stensland, who mentioned it to her boss, general manager Mike Renda.

Rocco was told yesterday, live on Fox29's Good Day Philadelphia, that Renda had snagged tickets for him, parents Tina and Rocco, and friend and advocate Sharla Feldscher.

Moviemaking

Veteran actor Clarke Peters, good-guy Detective Lester Freamon on HBO's The Wire, will play the editor of The Inquirer in the film version of John Grogan's book Marley & Me, shooting today in The Inquirer's main newsroom. Former Inquirer columnist Grogan is played by Owen Wilson, who spent hours midday yesterday man-hugging Eric Dane (Mark "McSteamy" Sloan on Grey's Anatomy) at Broad and Walnut Streets. Before work, Wilson shopped at Borders at Broad and Chestnut. After today's filming, he and the company will be shooting in the West Chester area.

Heery Casting is looking for Asian men, women, boys and girls, ages 7 to 65, for paid roles in the film Transformers 2. Director Michael Bay will shoot a scene in the Bethlehem area in early June. No acting experience is necessary; Heery also seeks Asian talent with a military background. Send info and a photo to Tr2bethlehem@gmail.com. As for other aspiring extras: an open call is due in a couple of weeks.

Briefly noted

Actress Morgan Fairchild will join Gov. Rendell at today's launch of the Pennsylvania Commission for Women's Vote Campaign at the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. Fairchild? Active in AIDS-related and environmental causes, she's also a friend of Rendell's, a spokesman says.

Havertown producer Denny Somach is syndicating a radio show tied to his rare interview with rocker Don Felder, whose steamy memoir, Heaven and Hell: My Life as an Eagle, was released over objections of former Eagles mates Don Henley and Glenn Frey. Hear a clip at http://go.philly.com/felder.

The recent relaunch of glossy Philadelphia Style mag struck a chord with PhillyTurkey.com, the weekly, Onion-ish online humor mag from Bella Vista writer Jacob Lambert and Norristown Web-tech guy Dan Baker. While the real Philly Style leads with a snazzy headshot and glorifies luxe living, Lambert's June parody cover is a passed-out guy over teasers including "Is Your Car Rusty Enough?" The story "quotes" Style chief executive Jason Binn: "Honestly, the way things are going, it seems almost reckless to write about 'haute couture' and $45 entrees. These days, it's a much safer bet to cover the guy with soup on his pants at Midtown Diner."
