John Gonzalez is a local product who was exiled for a time and forced to live among cretins in Dallas and Boston. He’s back home now, much to the chagrin of his friends and family. For a while, he thought he might get into politics, and ran for U.S. Congress. It's true. Then he was beaten worse than George McGovern in '72. Also true. He plans to stick with writing for a while.

You knew it was coming. When the Yankees won the World Series, every sports fan with half a functioning brain cell braced for the inevitable, saccharine SportsCenter packages.

If you haven't seen Three Sheets, I highly recommend it. It's a drinking show that used to be on a little-known cable station called Mojo but now appears on FLN, an even more obscure outlet.

Before Game 6 of the World Series, I was on the field at Yankee Stadium. A friend and I were looking around and taking it all in.
NEW YORK - When the last out was recorded, Yankee Stadium shook from the energy. A deep, primal howl reverberated from the stands. It was the sound of victory, of ultimate triumph - sweet music to the locals, pure pain to Philadelphians.
Regardless of whether the Brett Myers remarks were sincere, the whole thing underscores what's become painfully apparent lately: Cole Hamels has replaced Donovan McNabb as the most scrutinized and ridiculed athlete in Philly
Charlie Manuel is a nice guy - or at least he treats most of the press with respect, which is what passes for pleasant as far as most of us are concerned. He wasn't in such a good mood before the Phils went out and beat the Yanks in Game 5, however. He seemed sort of annoyed, actually.
The city was blanketed by a grim, gray sky yesterday morning. It was fitting. A lot of people woke up in dark moods. The idea of an all-day sports clash with New York initially sounded fun, but any pre-festivity positivity was muted when the Phils blew Game 3 on Saturday. Cole Hamels said the season has been "mentally draining" and added that he "needed a fresh start."
That one stung - for the Phils, for the fans, for everyone not living in New York or wearing a Yankees uniform. If you reside in the Philadelphia area and slept well last night, you were one of the few.
There are rules. Sadly, some of you are violating them and getting away with it. Last week, I wrote about my buddy Doyle - a vile, shameless wretch who is about to be excommunicated from our network of friends for an ineffable fan infraction. To wit: He roots for both the Yankees and the Phillies.
NEW YORK - It's that time of year. Halloween isn't until tomorrow, but some fans in the Bronx couldn't wait.
NEW YORK - It appears Jay-Z and the Yankees have something in common: None of them perform in the rain.
You never know what to expect on live TV. It's the unpredictability that makes it great. After the Fightin's won their second-straight NL Championship Series, people all over the Philadelphia region celebrated. The local television stations covered the commotion, cutting to footage from Citizens Bank Park, neighborhood bars and city streets.
