The Cycles line of wines has been booming since producer, Hahn Family Wines, launched a "Banned in 'Bama" promotion. As it turns out, the wines, from California's Central Coast region, are actually pretty good for their commercial niche, with more balance and complexity than I usually taste in the $10 range. The syrah, cabernet, and pinot have been my favorites.
Pennsylvanians will no doubt want to taste these wines ($9.99) simply to revel in the fact that there is now another state that is officially more oppressive to wine lovers than theirs. Before they gloat too much, though, they should know the widely available bottles routinely cost at least $2 less in South Jersey. Some geographic cliches, alas, will forever ring true.
