Did you see the Phillies last night playing the Boston Red Sox and wonder what were those dull red splotches that sullied their white home uniforms? The one along Jimmy Rollins' leg? Or the one covering Ryan Howard's left shoulder? Or the one across Chase Utley's heart?

His isn't the easiest of situations, replacing a polarizing and electric quarterback in a town divided, trying to resurrect a franchise that has endured the toughest two years imaginable. But Matt Ryan is unfazed by the task.

NFL: Raiders' Walker found unconscious in Vegas
His was nervous laughter, no doubt born of the furor he caused with the much maligned "gold standard" sound bite from a few years ago. Jeffrey Lurie wasn't looking for a headline, nothing that would pop and be circulated across the NFL.
Good. That was the collective response inside the Eagles' locker room yesterday. Michael Strahan is retiring after a legendary 15-year career with the New York Giants? Good. As in, good riddance. As in, good luck. As in, goodbye.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - This is why they are the greatest. This is why they will go down as the most dominant, the most determined and, yes, the most clutch team of this or any era - better than the 1972 Miami Dolphins, better than the '85 Chicago Bears, better than the '98 Minnesota Vikings.

Giants, 30-7; and lost the regular-season finale to Carolina, 31-21.
All week the Eagles players and coaches have praised the play calling of Saints head coach Sean Payton. They weren't just blowing smoke. Payton is imaginative and specializes in getting mismatches on the field.
Eagles offense vs. Saints defense The Eagles showed they could win last week despite a less-than-stellar performance from quarterback Jeff Garcia (17 of 31 passing, 153 yards, 1 TD, 79.1 passer rating). They will need better against the Saints. Eagles receiver Donté Stallworth didn't play against his former team in New Orleans' 27-24 win on Oct. 15 because of a hamstring injury. His presence should add a dimension against a Saints defense that allowed 26 touchdown passes, 30th in the NFL.
