Inqlings: Local film on DVD Dec. 8

It's taken three years, but a low-budget, locally shot comedy movie will finally see the light of DVD on Dec. 8.

Hooking Up - which during its 2006 production was called Cluster - stars Corey Feldman (The Lost Boys, Stand By Me), Brian O'Halloran (Clerks), and Bronson Pinchot (Perfect Strangers). It was directed, written, produced, and edited by Bucks County buddies Jeff Siegel, Vincent Scordia, and Mark Rowland, who found distribution through MTI Home Video.

Plot: "The relationships of three girls and four guys in affluent adolescent suburban reality intersect through the topsy-turvy world of love, power . . . and hooking up."

Food drives revving up

Patti LaBelle will help with a turkey giveaway this morning at Brown's Family ShopRite at 52d Street and Parkside Avenue in West Philly, where the birds will be dispensed in a random drawing. The store also will provide samples of Lady Marmalade, LaBelle's new line of sauces and marinades.

WMGK (102.9) morning man John DeBella will do his eighth annual Turkey Drop from 6 to 9 a.m. today from LOVE Park. It's a benefit for City Team Ministries Philadelphia.

Next week will see WMMR's Preston & Steve show living in the parking lot of the MetroPlex Shopping Center in Plymouth Meeting for the 11th annual Campout for Hunger.

Dog day afternoon

Downingtown's Carissa Shimpeno, 27, and a Doberman named CJ will get much airtime on Thursday's telecast of the Purina-sponsored National Dog Show (noon, NBC10). CJ - whose papers call her Allure Blazing Star Alisaton - is the second-ranked dog in the country and top-ranked Doberman and working-class dog. In the last 10 months, she's won 45 best in shows.

Literary works

Newsman Larry Kane, whose literary works have been in nonfiction (the Beatles-related Lennon Revealed and Ticket to Ride, plus Larry Kane's Philadelphia), is entertaining publishers' offers for his still-untitled murder thriller that is set mostly in the TV news realm. "You may recognize aspects of some of the people but you won't be able to specifically identify anyone," says Kane, whose tale will describe "the underbelly and the villains and heroes of the business."

CBS3 meteorologist Carol Erickson is out with her first children's book Not a Used Dog, At All, designed to encourage adoption of shelter dogs by simply explaining the reasons for it. Her colleague Jeff McCloskey illustrated. It's available through www.authorhouse.com, with proceeds bound to animal charities.

Briefly noted

Denzel Washington attended Saturday's Penn-Delaware basketball game to watch son Malcolm play. Argh, a heartbreaker. The 5-foot-9 freshman guard, who finished with 3 points in his 9 minutes on the floor, tried a three-point shot at the buzzer in the second overtime, but it missed. The Quakers fell, 97-94.

Singer/bandleader Eddie Bruce is set up through the end of the year on Wednesday nights at the Moshulu, the restaurant at Penn's Landing, in a supper-club atmosphere reminiscent of long-ago Babe's in Port Richmond. Tomorrow's bill includes singer Paula Johns and saxman Larry McKenna.
