Sideshow: Remembering Ed McMahon

Entertainment Tonight reports that Tonight Show sidekick Ed McMahon, who died last week at age 86, was honored by 200 friends, loved ones, and admirers at a memorial service Sunday at the Church of the Hills at Forest Lawn Memorial Parks and Mortuaries in the Hollywood Hills.

Singers Natalie Cole and David Foster joined harmonies on Cole's tune "Smile." Foster also performed a duet with Star Search champ Nita Whitaker. Ed's wife Pam, his children and grandchildren shared words and sentiments.

The service, which ended with a standing O, also featured Tony Danza, Jimmy Kimmel, and Johnny Carson's widow, Joanna Carson.

Diane Keaton's new career?

It seems

Ledger's death reported in detail

Vanity Fair has assembled an awe-inspiring, Pentagon Papers- and Watergate-style investigative report which offers a nanosecond-by-nanosecond account of Heath Ledger's last days.

As USAToday.com notes, drugs are a much-discussed issue when it comes to the late Dark Knight star's life.

Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus cinematographer Nicola Pecorini says Heath "used to smoke marijuana on a regular basis, like probably 50 percent of Americans."

However, once it became an issue at his workplace, Heath "went clean as a whistle."

Vocal coach Gerry Grennell never saw him drink but was concerned about Heath's use of sleeping pills to control his insomnia. Heath died on Jan. 22, 2008, at 28.

The secret of marketing: Love

Are you bewildered by persistent media claims that because Twilight costars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were totally in love in the movie, therefore, they must be a real couple? The equation makes perfect sense, even if it's not true: It's the oldest PR trick in the biz, dudes.

In the latest bit of nonsense, the New York Daily News asks if Megan Fox - who is beyond hot in both Transformers flicks - and her costar Shia LaBeouf, who appreciates hotness, are lovers. There's solid proof this time: The News says the pair sat next to each other at a dinner that included 10 other people. (Whoa!)

Coroner: Bogus autopsy report

Los Angeles County Coroner's Office Assistant Chief Ed Winter yesterday rubbished a report by the always-reputable Brit tabloid the Sun that purportedly contained details from Michael Jackson's sealed, super-secret autopsy report, including the claim that Jackson, who was 5-foot-10, weighed 112 pounds (yikes!) and that his body was riddled with evidence of drug injections.

"No food just pills in his stomach, bald, bruised, his ribs broken by CPR, 4 needle wounds near his heart," the Sun's subhead reads. The full autopsy results won't be available for weeks, pending results of various creepy-sounding biochemical tests.
